Palmiers

Well.....The other day my mom tells me that I'm going to get a chance to make some fancy desserts for a dinner that my family is having with friends. So, I say to myself in my head, "Ooo, I'll make palmiers because they will be challenging  to make and they'll look really pretty and fancy. And also, because I saw them at a bakery stand at the farmers' market in Salt Lake City and they looked really good( I think the bakery was Les Madeleines). So, the next day at school I get some free time to look for things on the internet on the computers at school. I then proceed to go to The Food Network Website and do a search for Palmiers. I click on the Ina Garten recipe because I figure that she seems like the kind of person who may be somewhat knowledgeable about the ins and outs of pastries. I open the recipe and am shocked by what I find. 3 ingredients!!! That can't be right. But it is. Wow, was I surprised. I still hope to make them even though they aren't as difficult as I thought they would be. Can't wait to see how they taste.

Pineapple Upsidedown Cake

My first attempt at pineapple upside down cake went pretty well. It took me a little while to find a recipe that didn't need to be baked in a cast iron skillet.I would love to try that eventually, but didn't have the time right then. This was a very good cake. The cake itself was nice and moist and soft. And the pinapple and cherries were very good. I like the way that the syrup misture oozed into the cake a little bit but not so much that every bite was a syrupy gooey mess. I don't think that I have ever had this that I remember, so my first experience was a very good one. I wasn't expecting the syrupy glaze stuff to be so good. And let me tell you, I was so scared to flip that thing over. I get so frustrated when I work really hard on something and then I mess up the presentation. This cake was excellent and I would definitely make it again some time. Delectable!!

Why?

I have designed this blog to get some of my ideas about baking (and occasionally just regular cooking) out  there. I am considering pursuing a career as a pastry chef and I would like to see if having this blog helps me to figure out if that is right for me. I absolutely love to bake. I also like to make people happy with the things that I make. My friends say that I make killer cupcakes and that they would pay very large sums of money for my cookies.  I hope you stick with me in my adventures in the kitchen.
